Starting Therapy Can Feel Vulnerable

Reaching out for therapy can feel surprisingly difficult, especially for people who are used to handling things on their own.

Many of the clients I work with are high-achieving professionals who appear composed externally while privately carrying anxiety, burnout, relationship stress, perfectionism, or emotional exhaustion.

You do not need to have everything figured out before scheduling a consultation. The purpose of therapy is not to prove that you are struggling “enough.” It is to create space to better understand yourself, your patterns, and what support could look like moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the consultation?

The consultation is a brief conversation about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve been carrying, and what support you’re looking for. You do not need to prepare anything beforehand. It’s simply a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit.

What if I’m new to therapy?

That’s okay. Many clients begin therapy unsure of where to start. You do not need a perfectly organized story or the “right” words. My approach is collaborative, grounded, and conversational. Together, we'll work to navigate therapy in a way that works best for you.

What if I feel like my difficulties are not worth talking about?

Many high-achieving people minimize what they’re carrying because they’re used to pushing through. Therapy is not only for a crisis. If something is consistently affecting your well-being, relationships, or peace of mind, it deserves attention.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?

Not every therapy experience feels like the right fit. Many clients I work with have had previous therapy that felt overly surface-level, impersonal, or disconnected from their lived experience. A strong therapeutic relationship matters.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be helpful even if you are functioning well externally. Many clients reach out when they feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, burned out, or tired of carrying everything alone.

What if I struggle to open up emotionally?

That’s more common than you might think, especially for people who are used to being the “strong one.” Therapy is a process, not a performance. You do not have to share everything immediately for therapy to be meaningful.
